Augustinus Mönch V
The fruit for the wine Augustinus Mönch V comes from favorable sites from original possessions of the Augustinian Hermits of Fürstenfeld. Wine has been grown here for many generations. On steeply sloping hillsides, old vines provide meager fruit that is handpicked, carefully fermented on the skins, and brought to maturity in small wooden barrels. Augustine Monk is the marriage of Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet grapes from the great 2017 vintage. The wine is limited to 1362 bottles; opulent and powerful endowed with noble tannins and high depth of color. Climatic influences and the soil in harmony with the winemaker's craft have created here again a unique wine with great potential. Our Lions Vine Master Carolus watches over and cares for all this time with a strict hand, guarding this great treasure on the road to revelation. On the occasion of the Visitation of Mary, the wine was packed in wooden boxes and accompanied by organ music, bedded down in the Church of St. Augustine to ripen. Lingering in the force field of the church inspires with positive energy and spirituality. The wine is a great legacy and will reach its first maturity of pleasure in 5 to 8 years. In big glasses, with good thoughts, with peaceful people we want to defy the pandemic and feast with Augustinus Mönch. We can look forward to a great wine event.
Augustinus Mönch - the project
The Lions here in Fürstenfeld are committed to tradition and helpfulness, and walk in the footsteps of the Augustinian hermits. The red thread of our story is Augustinus Mönch the wine. 227 wooden crates of 6 bottles each are available for order for € 282,--! € 100,-- per crate will go to "Lions-Fürstenfeld aid projects". The purchase of a crate is followed by the announcement of the "revelation"! We tell city history - we celebrate Eucharist - we serve bread and wine and we help where other help does not reach! We look forward to your participation and say thank you!
Augustinus Mönch - the monastery
The foundation of the monastery goes back to the demand of the citizens of Fürstenfeld in the 13th century, who were in constant dispute with the Knights of St. John (now Maltese). After many years of tough wrangling, city captain Hans von Stadeck finally succeeded in obtaining the benevolence of the sovereigns! On December 3, 1362, Rudolf IV (the founder) issued the charter for the foundation of an Augustinian hermit monastery here at Fürstenfeld. With the approval of the Pope as well as Archbishop Ortolf of Salzburg, nothing more stood in the way of laying the foundation stone. The construction of the monastery was finally completed in 1368 with the consecration of the church to St. Augustine. The monastery was home to 12 monks, who significantly shaped Fürstenfeld economically, socially and pastorally, and led the town to its first flourishing at that time!

Moarhof ennobled to Moarhoch! Styrian Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Dense and powerful with mint and small berries on the nose, lots of substance on the palate, rustic with a ripe tannin core; delicate toasting with smoky tobacco, multi-faceted with great storage potential! A real hammer! Spent a lot of time in small barrels and was able to ideally blend firm tannin with fine mocha notes and noble herbal spice. Black-covered colour core, opulent and powerful, with decent length. A recommendation with strong meat dishes.

My small berries highlight depth of colour and strong tannin. Ripe cassis on the nose, entwined with proper spice and elegance on the palate. I am the perfect “pasta wine” as well as a noble companion solo.
